Crazy Quilt Tool Roll
Class Project (2023)
Designer/Technician: Lauren Patrick
Inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia, this quilt represents the change from eternal winter to spring upon Aslan's return. Icy blues and snowflake details fade into a warmer palate with floral accents. Themes and motifs from the story - including horses, castles, and Peter's shield - are represented in both the embroidered and beaded decoration, as well as the fabric choices.
This project served as an introduction to hand embroidery and beading, while also allowing us to exercise our design and technical skills. We were required to tell a story in a cubism/crazy quilt format pieced from silk neckties and decorated with various embroidery stitches, beading, 3D insertions, and one trapunto moment (Aslan's snout).
