About Lauren

Hello there! I am Lauren Patrick, a costume technician from Northeastern Pennsylvania.  I'm currently in my final year at UNCSA and anticipate graduating in May 2026 with a BFA in Design and Production with a concentration in Costume Design and Technology.  My background in classical ballet and historical reenactment has inspired my passion for creating costumes that bring stories to life.  Thus, I believe a costume is much more than a mere item of clothing.  It is a conduit of transfiguration that reshapes the wearer into an entirely new character within the context of a specific time, culture, class, and location.  As a performer, I have personally experienced this transformative phenomenon. I understand and have embraced the sharp energy that comes from slipping into an icy confection of beaded satin and tulle, and assuming the role of an ephemeral, delicate Snowflake in The Nutcracker.  I have known the feeling of embodying femininity, transferred by donning an elegant and poised full mid-Victorian ensemble.  Presently, my practice as a costume technician strives to unite thoughtful application of technical skill and research with the exigencies of the contemporary performer, thereby enabling this metamorphic experience.  I draw inspiration largely from history, considering the overall context in which a piece exists and how this information will convey the existence of the character.  Each item of clothing I craft is executed with careful attention to detail knowing that every stitch, seam, and application of pattern contributes profoundly to the story being told.
